Last night millions watched as former Olympian, Bruce Jenner officially came out, confirming tabloid reports, that he is indeed transitioning into a woman. The 65-year-old father and stepfather to ten, including The Kardashians and Kylie and Kendall Jenner, sat down with ABC’s Diane Sawyer for a much anticipated interview. In it he entailed his lifelong struggle with his gender and what it means to be biologically male while identifying as a woman with in regards to gender. Bruce’s outing comes on the tails of a growing movement in regards to transgender rights, something many consider to be the latest frontier in human rights.
Of the millions watching, many of them were celebrities and they immediately took to social media in support of Bruce. As you can see the support is enormous–even Oprah tweeted about it and she admits to rarely watching other people’s interviews. Bruce’s family, celebrities in their own right, are supportive and ex-wife Kris Jenner, even though she had no comment at the time of interview, watched it with him last night–getting Perez Hilton together in the process!
Bruce’s announcement is brave and endearing. We will follow suit with Lady Gaga and hope the world will endow him with love and not hate during this trying time.
