With a loyal underground following and her well received debut album, it seems like Tinashe is next big artist to make some power moves within the industry. Unfortunately, 2016 has not been a Joyride for the R&B songstress. The follow-up to her 2014 debut Aquarius has been teased since summer 2015. And after spawning several singles including “Player (ft. Chris Brown)” and “Party Favors,” which failed to connect with fans, her label seemed to have pushed her sophomore effort back.
The release of “Superlove” in July put the Joyride campaign back intio motion, but there was still no official release date near in site. Until now.
“It’s coming in October, so very soon,” she told Rap-Up during a Bud Light Party in California earlier this week. “The majority of the album was recorded even before 2016. It was mostly recorded in 2015. The heart of the album still remains the same and then I’m still just adding little tidbits, little touches, anything that inspires me throughout this year.”
It looks like the stars are finally aligning for her sophomore effort.
But don’t look for an album with featured artist. “As of right now, I’m kind of not really leaning towards more feature-heavy. I’m leaning more towards not going that route, but it’s still a possibility.”
Earlier this year, the 23-year-old singer pulled the plug on her Joyride World Tour to complete the album, then news surfaced that she was in the studio with super producer Timbaland.
“Obviously you feel bad for letting anyone down, so pushing back any part of the tour was really hard for me,” she said. “I feel like it was honestly the right thing to do. I was able to ceate some really amazing stuff in the last couple months for the album. Now I think it’s in an amazing place.”
The seas are definitely parting for the singer to solidify her place amongst the Beyonce’s and Rihanna’s of the industry. Tinashe has the potential and the catalog to be a top-tier talent.
