Sunday a barefoot Aiko took the stage at Hot 97 Summer Jam. Debuting her Alter Ego, Rapper “J Henny” in a risqué Blue hippie-esq two-piece on the Festival Stage, Aiko was less than impressive according Summer Jam attendees. Disgruntled fans took to Twitter to tell the Artist just how they felt about her performance, or lack there of. While I enjoyed all the songs Jhene performed, I would have to agree, she was rather boring on stage. Aiko’s stage presence read like “Peanut’s home girl on the Mic at a kickback”. Vocally Aiko missed the mark, singing off key with frequent cracks throughout each song. After a mediocre performance with Childish Gambino, she began her song ‘Stay Ready’ by dropping the Mic from the stand half way through the first few lyrics. Like a Pro she picked up the Mic and continued the song like nothing happened. Unfortunately for the concert go-ers that was as professional as it got.
In response to the negative feedback she received on her Summer Jam performance Jhene took to twitter, Fenty style and let the haters have it. She also blamed her lack luster performance on the consumption of a Nut Cracker stating, “ I had a “nut cracker” btw. Twisted.”
While she has built a substantial following based on talent alone through social media it’s not erroneous to advise Ms. Aiko to have several seats. It would be a shame for her career to end before it has really begun. Jhene has a lot of potential, and a unique sound for the industry right now, something we’ve been missing. Take of the bandannas J Henny you’re a singer! Have a few less Totes of the Marley and save the Nut Crackers for the after party.
