The BET Awards was just a warm-up. Last night (July 2), the ladies brought the crowd at the Superlounge stage in New Orleans back to an era where R&B music represented exactly what it stands for, rhythm and blues.
What I need you to understand is Xscape is back and here to stay! Since their days of baggy jeans, over-sized t-shirts, and bandanas, Xscape hasn’t skipped one beat. It’s almost as if their 15-year break never existed. The ladies kicked off their sultry performance with the tracks “Do You Want To,” “Keep On Keepin’ On,” and “Who Can I Run To.” For more of Xscape’s riveting performance watch the clip below.
For the lucky festival goers who were able to relive the 90s and witness the powerhouse vocalists sang, not sing-I envy you.
“We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the return of Xscape than in New Orleans. Essence Fest is so much more than a music festival. It’s a celebration of culture, music, and entertainment.”
Unfortunately, everyone didn’t get the opportunity to bask in Xscape’s glory. In a video posted via Instagram, the ladies sincerely apologized for the mishap.
“We truly apologize to everybody who tried to come see us perform tonight, but couldn’t get in. It was beyond our control because we wanted to perform for everybody. It wasn’t really our choice the way things were set up, but we appreciate the love. So many people came to support us. It was overwhelming. Our first show was crazy.”
2017 should be renowned as the year of “reunion”. First, there was New Edition, G-Unit, and now after what seemed like an eternity the 90’s R&B girl group, Xscape. After 15 years, Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, Tamika Scott, and LaTocha Scott are going back on tour. If you missed their epic performances at the BET Awards and the Essence Festival, here is your chance to witness the ladies tear down the stage in your hometown.
