This…Stuff”? Oh. Okay. I see…However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and its sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact you’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.- Miranda Priestley, The Devil Wears Prada.
In the middle of a casual conversation someone questioned, “What is fashion, does anyone really have style?” Of course, those of us who were blessed with a sense of style and coordination looked with confusion. But, myself I looked with curiosity. Curiosity that maybe they were on to something. So, yes you have those who have it and those who don’t. Fashion is something that can be taught, coached and even an obsession. But, true fashion sense comes from those creative juices throughout your mind and body. It’s like singing a song, writing book or even dancing without little movement- simply a visual.
So, readers, fashion gurus and fashionista do we really have style? Or, is it a talent, a gift, is it art?
Milan, Paris, New York and Copenhagen fashion week street styles were the inspiration behind this write-up, behind my definition of fashion and style in today’s society. Style is who you are as a person, how things are put together tells me about you. Because of one stylish outfit I can tell what music you may listen too. Style is the representation of the individual. Therefore, fashion is considered a lifestyle, it’s can be therapy, a drug, hobby, job, passion, a committed relationship and much more. Fashion is simply a lifestyle for designers, models, stylist and experts. It’s a talent, you have fashion sense or you don’t!

But, my biggest inspiration was the MoMa fashion exhibition of articles of clothing both high fashion and general cloth. From Hoodies, designer jumpsuits to basketball jerseys and many more. This exhibit answered my question, but left some confusion about how others see fashion. The exhibit went through multiple era of fashion throughout history with 111 pieces from 20th and 21st century- according to the Quartz.com.

Yes, there are people that do have style, unfortunately there are some that don’t. But, creativity is something we all have, but only a few can prosper.
