Will Smith has been kind of low on confidence. After his previous movie “After Earth” co-starring his son Jaden Smith bummed hard in the box office only bringing in $60.5 million out of the $120 million it took to make it, Will has been a little hurt. For his latest weekend release for “Focus”, Smith will be far away from the box office numbers that have been hunting him lately.
Will told Variety:
“I’m probably going to leave town for a week or so, so I don’t get sucked back into the machine. I can’t allow the box office success, or the lack thereof, to determine my self-image. I am probably going to get out and, you know, not get the hourly update from Cleveland…’It was up 10%!’ I am just going to completely stay away from it.”
It is hard to believe that a star of Will Smith’s caliber has really been effected by numbers and ratings. For Pete’s sake, the guy has grossed over $2 billion in films alone and let’s not forget the hit television show of the 90’s “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. It just goes to show no matter how much you achieve in life, you can still be torn apart by one hick-up. The greats always strive for greatness in everything they do and Will is definitely a perfectionist.
You can catch the movie “Focus” starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie in theaters this Friday.
