Last night KONTROL attended the 2014 ASCAP Awards honoring Women Behind The Music.  Honorees included, celebrity DJ Jakissa “Dj Kiss”, Taylor-Semple, Vice President of Promotions at RCA, Sam Selolwane, and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Jazmine Sullivan.  With MYX Fusion beverages in hand, attendees listened attentively as the panel of industry power houses spoke of their journey’s to success.

The event was held at the chic Toshi’s Living room, where guests were seated comfortably in plush sofas, and chairs. Though each journey unique, all three women shared the same drive and determination. Their anecdotes of life changing decisions, and sacrifices, and words of encouragement ignited the room with fresh passion, and ambition.

After closing remarks, and receiving their awards, Jazmine Sullivan sung the house down with her powerful vocals, performing her hit single ‘Stupid Girl’, and her latest single off her forthcoming album, ‘Forever Don’t Last’. Last night’s experience was a powerful, and dynamic display of the important, and influential role women play in the music industry.  Other Honorees of the ASCAP, Women Behind the  Music award this year include, K. Michelle, Billboard’s Senior Editor Gail Mitchell, Entertainment Attorney Omara S. Harris, and many more. In the words of Beyonce, “who run the world? GIRLS!”
