Lebanese designer Elie Saab had a great showing at Paris Couture Spring 2014 last week. This will go down in history (or at least MY history) as one of the best fashion shows of all time! The uniformity, sequence of collection and details of his designs was brilliant. This latest latest collection from Saab was mainly inspired by “the nineteenth-century Dutch artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema painted scenes from the Roman Empire,” whose subjects “always seemed to be reclining amid marble statuary, and there was a good chance that the Mediterranean Sea was shimmering in the background.” Looking at every piece of this collection, it is evident that Saab’s inspiration really moved him to create pieces that reflect his and Alma-Tadema’s artistic connection. This is an example of how great creations by one artist can imperatively influence another to do the same; in this case, these creators differ in artistry. Nonetheless, art have always had an important correlation to fashion design.
As the show went on, all of the colors seemed to flow into the next, which created anticipation while I was viewing the look book. He began with a true spring color of pale/blush pink and from there he showed natural whites, coral, lilac, gold and eventually lead into black ombre and a beautiful flower print. Elie Saab is a go to designer for some of the most famous celebrities when it’s time for a red carpet appearance. He is known for his perfect use of sparkle and soft intricate details. However, his real genius is how he masters simplicity even with all the detailing. We are still at the beginning of awards season, with plenty of high profile red carpet events and celeb bashes. It’s exciting to think of which stars may be seen wearing some of these looks. Surely they will all be pushing their stylists to grab one of Saab’s new couture gowns. Every single garment from this 48 look collection is amazing! Did I forget to mention the final look was a gorgeous wedding gown? Elie Saab had the best show at Paris Couture Spring 2014! Here’s a look at some of the collection.
