Full of drama and the dating realities for most of todays generation of young Black professionals, Roomieloverfriends, created, written and produced by Dennis Dortch and Numa Perriers, creators of Black & Sexy TV productions (co-produced by Issa Rae) hit home within the first few seconds of its premiere, May 18, 2012. The show follows Tamiko (Shayla Hale), a sassy boutique owner with an available room to rent in her apartment, and Jayson “Jay” (Andra Fuller), the very handsome male interested in a room to rent. With every 5-10 minute webisode, I laugh, cry and nostalgically love every minute of Tamiko and Jay’s blossoming and complicated relationship, as I thankfully see images of what my circle of friends and I really look like.
If you’ve never seen Roomieloverfriends, don’t worry my pretty; all episodes of season one and two are on available for free on issarae.com and YouTube. The finale of season two just premiered February 10, 2014 and since new episodes are not back until Summer 2014, you will have plenty of time to catch up. Trust me, if you are sick “ratchet tv” and ready for television with adult conversation, and a realistic reflection of Black life, you will thank me later. And I like gifts, preferably shoes; size 10!
