The Super Bowl halftime show was supposed to be Katy Perry’s time to shine even brighter. But for some reason her, her huge lion, and the great Lenny Kravitz were all drowned out by the most epic comeback in Super Bowl history (Sorry, Tom Brady). Missy Elliott showed up, showed out, and showed why we need another album from the Queen of the of the ink pen.
Katy Perry’s halftime was going pretty good with the outrageously huge lion she rode in on and the crazy outfits she donned during her performances. Then she brought out Lenny Kravitz to perform one of her very first hit songs “I Kissed A Girl” and it went up another notch…and then it happened. Missy Elliott, who has been doing a lot of behind the scenes work writing and producing with artist like J. Cole, Jasmine Sullivan, and Keyshia Cole avoiding the spotlight, showed us that she can still put on a show with her hit classics from a decade ago at the Super Bowl. It was great to see her back up there doing her thing in, what seemed to be, full health since her battle with Graves’ disease over the years which slowed down her music career. Elliott’s halftime performance was so big that she is expected to see her songs like “Get Ur Freak On”, “Work It”, and “Lose Control” sales increase by 1,000 percent according to Nielsen Music. Right now, four of Missy’s albums are back in the Top 100 on iTunes since the Super Bowl performance aired.
So with old fans ready to rekindle that old feeling and new fans wanting more of the “New artist” (Yes, there were actually people who thought Katy made Missy a new star smh…), are we going to see the Virginia native back in action with a new album? It’s been 10 years but we may be getting some new material in the near future from the R&B/Hip-hop blended veteran artist. Missy Elliott’s sidekick and longtime friend Timbaland tweeted congratulating his friend on her comeback performance:
” @Timbaland now thats what Im talking about @MissyElliott u kilt dat”
Missy tweeted back to Timbaland:
“@Timbaland hmmm see u soon correct? Lol”
Either they are playing a cruel joke on everybody or this means we are going to get another classic album from the super duo! Fingers crossed!
