Terror in Charleston, South Carolina happened overnight as nine people were shot and killed during a bible study session.
Charleston police Chief Greg Mullen says that a white male in his 20s walked into Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church sat down for about an hour during the prayer meeting and got and began shooting. The gunman is still at large and there is a massive manhunt for the suspect.
Among the nine killed was Rev. Clementa Pinckney, senator in Charleston and there were only three survivors.
With the recent indictment of former officer Michael Slager after the shooting death of the unarmed African-American Walter Scott in North Charleston, authorities are looking at the church shooting as a hate crime.
Additionally, Pinckney backed a recent bill to allow body cameras to be mandatory for all police officers in the state of South Carolina after the Walter Scott murder.
“Body cameras help to record what happens. It may not be the golden ticket, the golden egg, the end-all-fix-all, but it helps to paint a picture of what happens during a police stop,” Pinckney stated in April.
It’s a shame that you can’t even worship in your place of salvation without being killed. The war on blacks in America right now is at an all-time high and we’re being targeted like never before.
Pray for Charleston.
