4 Signs It’s Time to Take a Step Back from Life

Signs It’s Time to Take a Step Back from Life

As you may well know, life can get extremely hectic and there are times when we need to hold our hands up and say ‘enough is enough’. When we become stressed because of all that life throws at us, it can lead to serious impacts on our mood and well-being — to the point where we no longer feel we’re able to cope. It’s a brave move to make the decision to take a step back when it all becomes too much and when we realize that we must put ourselves first once in a while.

Here are four signs to pay attention to when the time’s right to take a step back and re-evaluate your life.

1. You’re Not Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep is crucial to our overall health and well-being and when we don’t get enough of it, it can cause a variety of issues like lack of focus, forgetfulness and low mood. Occasional lack of sleep may cause you to feel extremely weary and irritable for a few days, while constant lack of sleep can cause severe medical conditions such as heart disease, obesity and high blood pressure.

2. You’re Suffering Mentally

450 million people worldwide suffer from a mental health condition, the most common of which include depression, anxiety and eating disorders. If you feel as though you’re suffering from some form of condition and if every day feels like a battle, it may be time to seek help.

Those who suffer from an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia may benefit from the Eden Treatment. Professionals here specialize in addressing body, spirit and mind, and through this treatment you’ll gain the ability to re-assess your relationship with food and learn strategies to live a normal life.

3. You’re Repeatedly Getting Sick

If you find yourself constantly getting sick, this is usually your body’s way of telling you to slow down and take time out. Always remember to put yourself first. If you don’t, you’ll be unable to do all the things you had planned as a result of burnout. If you wish to prevent serious health complications later down the line, sometimes the best thing to do is listen to your body.

4. Missing Time with Your Kids

If one of the main causes of your unhappiness is the fact that work is getting in the way of spending quality time with your family, it’s time to re-think your priorities. Having said that, a work/life balance is extremely difficult to manage when you’re a parent and many have claimed they’re eager to make adjustments to their schedules, even if it impacts their salary.

If you do work solid hours that cannot be changed, you should aim to be there for those important moments that happen when you’re not at work. This may include occasional weekend activities, enjoying the bedtime routine or eating with your children and hearing about their day at school. Being there for those short but precious moments should allow you to feel you’re achieving a better work/life balance when work hours are strict.
