It is hard to believe that it has been over twenty years since Disney’s The Lion King made its way onto the big screen and into our hearts. Since then the film has garnered a number of films, entertained millions, and continues to reign as the top grossing animated film of all time. Although we loved the film, we were left with quite a few unanswered questions–the biggest being what the hell happened to make Scar so evil?
As you know Scar was the uncle of Simba and the brother of Mufasa, the latter of which he murdered to rule over the Pridelands. From the jump, Scar is clearly sarcastic, bitter, insidious, traitorous, and subversive–but why? What great wrong was done to him? Well rumor has it that Disney will be answering that question with a film that details the origins of Scar and Mufasa, based in part on A Tale of Two Brothers from The Lion King: Six New Adventures is a collection of spin-off books of The Lion King.
Apparently, Scar was originally named Taka and became jealous when his father, Ahadi, chose Mufasa to succeed him as ruler of the Pridelands. The movie will detail Scar’s plans to eliminate his brother and earn his father’s favor. We will get to see a mischievous Taka grown into the psychotic Scar, and even learn how he earned his name. We are definitely glad this film is coming out and even more glad to hear about its live action twist. The actors and characters will be anthropromorphic animals played human actors. This definitely sounds like the film will win an Oscar at least in the make up and costume category. There is no news on the release date of the film, but we will keep you posted on every detail as it becomes available!
