According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer/dancer/mother/actor has landed roles on two upcoming VH1 shows. Taylor will appear on the hip-hop drama series “The Breaks” and the game show “Hip Hop Squares.”
Based off the successful TV movie that aired in January, “The Breaks” explores three friends’ triumphs and heartbreaks as they try to become stars in New York City’s hip-hop in 1990.
The “Fade” siren will have a recurring role on the series as a rapper discovered by Nikki (Afton Williamson) who is one of the first artists signed to the label that Barry Fouray (Wood Harris) is launching. Taylor joins a cast that also includes Mack Wilds, Antoine Harris, David Call, Evan Handler, Melonie Diaz, Sinqua Walls and Ali Ahn.
The show is executive produced by Seith Mann and John J. Strauss.
Taylor will also appear on VH1’s Hip Hop Squares. With a hip-hop flare, the show is based on the long-running game show Hollywood Squares. The update hails from Ice Cube and features celebrity contestants testing their wits and hip-hop and pop culture knowledge with superstar squares, featuring famous faces from hip-hop, comedy and entertainment.
The two gigs bring Taylor back to VH1, where she delivered a flawless Lil Kim tribute at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors. But it was her starring role in the Flashdance inspired music video, “Fade,” that has catapulted her into the spotlight.
While it seems that mainstream media has just discovered the talented Harlem native, Teyana has been on the radar for years. Her credits include Stomp the Yard 2, Madea’s Big Happy Family and MTV’s Super Sweet Sixteen.
Taylor is also a R&B songstress signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D Music/Def Jam. In 2014 she releases her debut album VII. Teyana unfortunately never received her standing ovation for delivering a smooth R&B album with bold vocals, but now the songstress’ time has arrived.
