Rapper A$AP Rocky, Lil’ Nas X, Paloma Elsesser, Halima Aden join superstar Rihanna’s Fenty beauty campaign this season. While many of us are waiting to hear news about a new album from Rihanna, the pop-diva is busy expanding her beauty kingdom. Having released a new campaign video, Rihanna is working on some major things at Fenty Beauty. In a brief but spot-on statement, Rihanna voiced her thoughts on the brand and it direction. “Fenty Skin is for my fellas too,” Rihanna said in a statement from Fenty Beauty. “No matter who you are, you deserve to have great skin!”
I think its very fashion forward for Asap Rocky to be the face of Rihanna’s Fenty beauty.
The beauty and cosmetics world is ruled primarily by women followed by gay men, so its refreshing to see a heterosexual male artist, particularly one like Asap Rocky head this collection of Fenty Beauty. While the statement may or may not having some heterosexual men scratch their heads and interpret this as something that puts their sexuality into question, I believe that this will encourage groups of heterosexual men to take full advantage of beauty products that will help them develop and maintain a healthy skincare regimen. I always say that the first element of having great style is having great skin and a great smile. As Rihanna said “you deserve to have great skin.” Whatever that means to you, I think that proper skin care is essential.
For those of you that didn’t know, skin-care is for everyone–not just the ladies. Fenty Beauty is a gender-inclusive brand that clearly offers something for everyone. One of my favorite things about Fenty beauty is that she’s taken a serious amount of time to develop a product that not only has amazing quality but is forcing other major cosmetic brands to raise their standards and products. This is what icons do and how people create the kinds of changes that need to be made. You change the playing field. This new beauty campaign from Fenty Beauty has me curious of Rihanna’s next moves. While she has flooded the market for make-up, will the superstar be developing products for cleaning and exfoliating skin as well? I can’t tell you how excited this makes me! I’m always going on and on about skincare and I see Rihanna going in this direction with Fenty Beauty.
If I had my way, Rihanna would release a cleanser, exfoliant, moisturizer, and blemish healing product from Fenty Beauty. Seeing as how she’s trying to market her product to men, she should also create beard and facial hair maintenance products. I already love Fenty Beauty, but by doing this I really believe that Fenty Beauty could become a household brand. Rihanna is not only a reigning queen of pop, but a ruling authority of cosmetics too.
