A man who was on top of the world, living life as a young professional athlete, is now going to be living the life of a caged bird. Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was found guilty for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
The incident goes back to the night of June 17, 2013. Lloyd was shot six-times and was left in a deserted industrial park not too far from where Hernandez resides in North Attleborough. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée. It is still unclear why Hernandez shot and killed Lloyd.
The jury released the verdict yesterday that found Hernandez guilty of 1st degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. The 25-year-old former NFL star is now facing life in prison without parole. Although Hernandez showed no emotion or worry when the verdict was read, ESPN reported that the tension in the room was thick and the tears flowed rapidly amongst family and friends on both sides.
Hernandez is also facing a double-homicide trial for gunning down two men during a drive-by for a spilled drink in a nightclub.
During the time of his arrest, Hernandez was signed to a $40 million contract with the Patriots.
