Amin Joseph is an action star, sex symbol, and dramatic actor mostly known for his appearances in films like Stephen King’s The Mist, Dope, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables and Homefront, and many major television series like NCIS and CSI: Miami. However, this Spring he is starring in the upcoming comedic action film Baywatch, which features actors Zac Efron and powerhouse Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The film focuses on a group of elite lifeguards who must work together to stop a drug trafficking operation. Amin takes on the job of portraying the villainous character, Frankie. The role came with a lot of action and fight scenes, including driving a speeding boat. He even got the chance to go toe-to-toe with “The Rock”.
It wouldn’t be Baywatch if there wasn’t sexy women bouncing around the beach and shirtless men flexing their tan muscles. The brand is notorious for their characters having desirables bodies, however, the film raises the “hotness” bar ten notches up. Though Amin didn’t get the chance to take his shirt off and flex his pecs along with his other male co-star, he still fits in the ensemble of physically appealing actors.
You would think he’d enjoy the break from having to take off his clothes. However, Amin was a little jealous that he didn’t get the chance to add some chocolate to the assortment of eye candy on set. Maybe if there’s a sequel he’ll get the opportunity to represent for the darker guys similar to Tyson Beckford, Morris Chestnut, and Terry Crews. In the meantime, Amin makes sure that his abs are always ready and popping for when the time comes.
As a native New Yorker, he grew up in Harlem and received a lot of entertainment experience through working at the legendary Apollo Theater. He started as an intern, later held down positions as an usher, bartender, and even attended to lighting. He went on to study Theater Arts at Howard University before moving to Los Angeles to build his acting career.
This summer he’s set to star in the FX series Snowfall, which was created by Hollywood director, producer, and screenwriter John Singleton. John is also responsible for films like Boyz In The Hood, Poetic Justice, and Baby Boy. The series focuses on the crack cocaine epidemic that took place in Los Angeles during 1983. The first season will consist of ten episodes.
Similar to one of the show’s trailers, Amin recalls walking to school as a child and coming across a glass vile. He later finds out that it used for crack cocaine. The epidemic was so widespread that even people across the country in New York were affected. You know something is serious when laws are created, which happened in 1986 when Congress passed the Anti-Abuse Act. This particular law mandated a minimum prison sentence of 5 years with parole for 5 grams of crack cocaine. The same prison sentence was given for possession of 500 grams of powder cocaine, creating a social-economic and racial divide in the federal system when it came to drugs.
Since crack cocaine was less expensive than its powder counterpart, African Americans and people of low-income backgrounds were more like to partake in the drug. While powder cocaine was enjoyed by wealthy drug users and many entertainment professionals. The Anti-Abuse Act of 1986 made it easier to punish poor African Americans for drug crimes, while their richer and mostly white counterparts continued to party.
Besides being an actor, Amin is also a filmmaker. He produces films through his production company Dark Energy Pictures. The films that he creates focus on action, horror, science fiction and more importantly diversity. They are films meant for the international market and display many ethnicities and languages. Most recently he produced and starred in the Dark Energy Picture’s 2015 film Call Me King, a coming of age story for two Haitian brothers.
Currently, Amin resides in Los Angeles with his new fiancé. He’s also shooting a supportive role in Johnny Depp’s LAbyrinth, a biographical crime thriller that focuses on the deaths of Hip-Hop icons Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Actors Forest Whitaker, Rockmond Dunbar, and Neil Brown Jr. also star in the film alongside Johnny Depp.
Catch Amin Joseph in the this Spring’s Baywatch which hits theaters on May 25th and the Summer premiere of FX’s Snowfall.
