Lauryn Hill is set to perform at the rebellious 2015 Afropunk summer music festival.The Afropunk festival will take place at Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park on August 22nd through the 23rd. This year is the festival’s 11th annual celebration.
Other performers for this year’s festival are Danny Brown, Thundercat, Kaytranada, Raury, Jesse Boykins III, Goldlink, Kele, Lion Babe, Soulection, Black Luck, Young Paris, Petite Noir, Brenmar, Adia Victoria, WC Kids, Uniiqu3, MikeQ, Everyday People, Mobile Mondays, Nadus, and Papi Juice.
This year will be the first year Afropunk hosts its Afropunk Ball, which benefits Afropunk Global Initiative to “a holistic, democratic and enlightened representation of people of color within all facets of society with the goal to create unique programming that encourages diversity in media.” Grace Jones will headline the Afropunk Ball.
The Afropunk festival is one of the most multicultural music festivals in the nation. The festival represents non-conformist, open-mindedness, and all together unconventional. The Afropunk movement is inspired by alternative music.
