It was the Spring/Summer 2003 Alexander McQueen Collection of scarves imprinted with skulls that sent everyone into a frenzy breaking their necks and maybe even their bank accounts to get their hands on one. In celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the scarves, British artist-provocateur Damien Hirst has joined the iconic Alexander McQueen fashion house to create 30-limted edition designs incorporating Hirst’s ‘Entomology’ paintings which illustrate insect species geometrically shadowing the Alexander McQueen skull motif.
The scarves made famous by celebrities all over the world currently retail at $295.00, however this art-imitates-life montage of spiders, butterflies and the like will start at a price point of $476.00. While this may be a bit steep to some, it may be well worth having a piece of work with a ridiculously rich artist along with the legacy of the late great Alexander McQueen. The fashion world adored McQueen as he lived and continues to honor him through fashion since his passing in 2010.
These unique scarves will be available in different fabrics including chiffon, twill and cashmere. The release is scheduled for mid-November which will be just in time for holiday gifts that will please the artsy-fashionistas who have everything but yearn for something different.
