Inspiring is perhaps an insufficient word to use to describe actress Aria Brooks. A bright and versatile performer of comedy and drama, Aria can easily be counted among the top performers of her generation. Fiercely dedicated to her fans, Aria is determined to use her platform to create a positive impression on anyone that she encounters. The young Atlanta native took time to chat with Kontrol magazine on her role on the hit Nickelodeon show All That, the excitement of being nominated for a Kid’s Choice award, and how she’s using her platform to keep her fans smiling through the Covid-19 shut-down.
“We’re not filming All That currently because of Covid-19,” Aria told me. “A lot of stuff I’m doing is on social media, so I can still reach out to fans and help them through the pandemic however I can. I created this show, Ask Aria on my Instagram. Every week, I interview different industry people and try to create ways to inspire people while we’re waiting on the Covid-19 pandemic to end.” Like many celebrities, Aria is doing her part in helping to calm the anxiety for the millions of people that are still on shut-down for Covid-19 pandemic.
Aria spoke fondly of her cast members and the experience of working on the set of All That.
Recently nominated for a Kid’s Choice Award Aria, is still as excited as ever about her current nomination and future in entertainment. In addition to being on All That she also gets to work with veteran comic Kel Mitchell aka Kel.
“Being nominated for a Kid’s Choice award is unbelievable. I’ve only been a part of All That for a few months. I watch the Kids Choice Awards every year, and to finally get to be a part of it is so amazing. I haven’t worked with Kenan Thompson yet, but I do get work with Kel. His energy is crazy. He has great energy and it’s easy to be funny when he’s in a sketch. He’s moving and making sounds and you can feed off of his energy too and be funny with him.
While Aria definitely is making her mark in the world of comedy, she’s no stranger to more dramatic roles. Aria got to show off her acting chops performing alongside some Hollywood heavy-hitters like Cynthia Erivo in the Academy Award nominated film Harriet.
“It was amazing working on Harriet, it really opened my eyes to her story. I’ve done drama and I haven’t been formerly trained in comedy. Comedy is something that I really got to do when I was with friends and have a chance to be more humorous. The comedy on All That can be really uncoordinated which keeps things a little spontaneous. Her [Harriet’s] story is so much richer that what the film portrayed. School textbooks don’t tell the whole story as it is. Being a part of the film showed me that her story is so much richer that what we know and how brave Harriet was at that time.”
