“American Sniper” knocks off their competition “The Hunger games: Mockingjay Pt.1” for the highest grossed film of 2014.
American Sniper brought down The Hunger Games this weekend grossing $337.2 million and counting in North America according to Variety. Not only has American Sniper surpassed a very successful Hunger Games series, but they also passed “Saving Private Ryan” as the highest grossed military film and “Passion of the Christ” as the highest grossed R-Rated movie.
This weekend’s opening weekend movies were very disappointing in regards to box office numbers. “Chappie” came in at No. 1 with $13.3 million which was way below what the studio expected. “Unfinished Business” starring Vince Vaughn and Dave Franco fell hard on its face bringing in $4.8 million slapping them into No.10. Talk about a comedy.
Will Smith’s “Focus” snagged the No. 2 spot bringing in $10 million on their second week. The “Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” ($8.6 million) and “Kingsman: The Secret Service” ($8.3 million) will take the No. 3 and 4 spot on the list.
Looks the Clint Eastwood film will be the film to beat for upcoming projects as it has already been stamped as a classic movie that will probably end up being in everybody’s DVD collection. Take your best shot, guys!
