Romance and reality television truly make for some amazing entertainment. For over a decade, and nineteen seasons now, ABC has brought us one Bachelor after another. Successful men from all walks of life charmed and enamored us with hundreds of dates, contests, hook ups, and LOTS of drama. Still, none of these studs have mirrored the majority of the world’s population—they were not men of color. Is the message we should receive that men of color are not also successful and lucrative? Absolutely not! Thankfully, We TV saw the need for some major diversity in the romance/reality television genre, realizing these two unlikely forces are a “Match Made In Heaven!”
A suitable bachelor cannot just be a man of color. However, he needs to be successful, charming and debonair in his own right. These attributes coupled with what many would consider outstanding good looks are an awesome recipe for the perfect bachelor. After considering a ton of candidates, it seems the reality television gods have chosen Shawn Bullard to be “America’s First Black Bachelor.”
Shawn Bullard recently linked up with us to shoot a steamy and sexy cover shoot for our Fashion reset issue. The shoot was in Atlanta GA with celebrity photographer Will Sterling and styled by Editor-In-Chief/Head Wardrobe Stylist Julian R. Lark. Take a look at the cover shoot and some of that Shawn Had to say in his interview.
Shawn admits he was not attracted to some of the women almost immediately, and goes onto say he never would have chosen to date some of them outside of the show. “I feel like they picked a pretty eclectic group of women, but some of them just were not for me and I knew it almost immediately…I like a woman that carries herself a certain type of way, is confident, can demand my attention, and that I know is passionate about me…some of them were there just for television and trust me I could tell…that’ s no shade on We TV, but it’s just sad some people would blow an opportunity for love for fifteen minutes of fame…”
Shawn Bullard is a man to be envied and this envy leads to rumors and speculation. The biggest of these rumors is his alleged relationship with the newest addition to The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Claudia Jordan. When questioned about the nature of their relationship he laughs and responds, “Man you been drinking all of the tea…no we are not together, not at all. We are friends and that’s it. Claudia’s an amazing and strong woman, but no we are strictly platonic…”
As you can tell he is a gym rat and admits to feeling guilty when he misses a day at the gym. In fact, fitness is his “handsome tip” (male beauty tip) for other men. He feels working out is not just beneficial to your health but that simple clothing instantly looks chic on a fit body. “…It saves you some money seriously! Why try so hard and spend hundreds on designer threads when you alone can make your clothes look good!”
