HBO announced comedy’s newest rising powerhouse, Amy Schumer, will be filming her first comedy special later this month at the Apollo Theatre.
If her HBO comedy special debut isn’t enough, Chris Rock has stepped in to direct the special, which will air at the end of the year.
Schumer announced the collaboration via Twitter. She is on a comedic rampage, if it’s not her viral comedy sketches for Comedy Central she’s hosting the MTV Movie Awards and she’s in her third season of her sketch comedy show, Inside Amy Schumer.
Every week the cheeky comedian nearly breaks the Internet with her clever sketch comedy acts.
Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programing attested to Schumer’s talent as a comedian.
“Amy is one of the most inspired comics working today, and we hope her first HBO special marks the start of a long and beautiful relationship,” says Lombardo. “This event is even more special because our good friend, the incredibly talented Chris Rock, is directing.”
Schumer has an SXSW screen play that she wrote, Trainwreck, debuting July 17. Judd Apatow directed the screenplay. The cast includes John Cena, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Hader.
