There’s no doubt that Hollywood has been under scrutiny when it comes to equal pay. Actors, actresses, and comedians have argued unfair treatment when it comes to pay gap. Comedian Amy Schumer was no different. She demanded more money from Netflix after noticing she wasn’t getting what she deserved.
Recently, comedian Amy Schumer insisted that Netflix pay her more money, after learning that she was paid less than male comedians Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle.
Earlier this year, Schumer released a comedy special, The Leather Special, on Netflix. Rumors surfaced shortly after that Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle were paid $20 million, while Netflix only paid Amy Schumer $11 million. A recent Variety post shed light on Schumer’s efforts to demand equal pay.
Now some are questioning if this is really a glass ceiling issue….or does it come down to talent? There’s no doubt that Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock are comedic legends. Some may argue that Amy Schumer is not even on their level yet, and still, relatively, new to the game. Both Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock have been successful in the business for over 25 years and they have paid their dues in order to earn such big salaries. Their shows are expected to bring in a large amount of revenue since they have a large fan base.
Schumer’s efforts has not gone unnoticed. Her team has worked strongly with Netflix and it looks like her pay did raise significantly. Do you agree with Schumer? Or does she need a reality check? Either way, closed mouths don’t get fed.
