Leading up to the release of the iPhone 7 rumors to whether or not the phone would come packaged with a set of ear buds had been flying around. Shortly after the official unveiling on September 7, the phone saw favor to updated Lightning-connected Ear Pods and the new innovative wireless Air Pods.
Set to ship in late October, Apple’s Air Pods have already been receiving a ton of criticism for its functionality and just outright look and style. As Apple tries to take us into a wireless future, most of us are wondering the basic, what happens if my Air Pods fall out? Though many have speculated the biggest reason why Apple got rid of the original headphone jack was for better improved water resistance, while some believed the real reason is so that Apple can convince you to purchase the brand new, futuristic, completely wireless Air Pods.
Apple announced the high-end, wireless ear buds would be considered a premium accessory… one that costs a whopping $159 USD. Set with a built-in W1 chip for audio processing and pairing, the Air Pods automatically sync up to all your Apple devices that use the same Apple ID. But with its polarizing, futuristic design, can its new wireless look translate easily into today’s aesthetics?
Sites such as Reddit, Instagram and Twitter have already made it its business to create memes for the little buds’ awkwardness of tech wearability, comparing them to objects ranging from cigarette butts to tampons. Seems like the general consensus is, people think they’re ugly. So, it most likely won’t be long until we see a saturation of accessories being made to keep your Air Pods from being lost, dropped and damaged, saving you from having to spend another $50 USD just to replace one, all while keeping you looking stylish.
With brand logos making their way onto everything from toothbrushes to bricks, it wouldn’t be a surprise should they step up their accessory game and go down the route of styling the Air Pods. Here are some street wear labels we hope to see in the future; From Palace’s signature Tri-Ferg logo and OFF-WHITE’s “Industrial Belt,” to BAPE’s iconic Shark face and camo, check out the concepts above.
Welcome to the wireless future. Do you miss the headphone jack already?
