After the Mayweather v. Pacquiao fight, I know a lot of you are thinking, “Dammit, I should’ve went to see the new Avengers movie instead of wasting my money on that.” I bet the Avengers themselves were wishing the same thing, too. The overly-hyped fight may have cost Marvel a few box office records.
The new summer blockbuster film “Avengers: Age of Ultron” had a pretty amazing opening weekend, but due to the big fight that went on this weekend (as well as a thrilling game 7 in the NBA Finals, the Kentucky Derby and the NHL playoffs), it didn’t quite live up to the first Avengers film in the box office department. Marvel’s newest film brought in $187.7 million in the U.S box office which is short of the $207.4 million the first film swept up. Although, those are still some pretty eye-popping numbers and still put it at no.1 in the box office polls.
All-in all, the super-squad of Marvel heroes destroyed the box office competition by a long shot. Furious 7 came at No.2 with $6.3 million. Age of Adaline was a close No.3 with $6.1 million and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 came in at No.4 with $5.4 million
