As the line between Reality and Ratchet gets closer and closer and the rate in which reality shows are being churned out… It was only matter of time before the producers set their eyes on the church.
Last week, Preachers of LA hit our screens via the Oxygen channel, and boy… was it a debut. The cast included shamed gospel star Dietrick Haddon, who set tongues wagging when he filed for divorce from his wife and then got his brand new partner pregnant out of wedlock before the divorce was even finalized. A big no-no in the Christian church. Former Crip, and O.G. Bishop Ron Gibson who carries a glock with him to keep law and order also raised eyebrows. What was even more shocking, was how quickly the drama broke out on what should have been a show rooted in love and spirituality. It was Deitrick Haddon again who squared up to Bishop Clarence McClendon towards the end of the first episode. Yes. They almost came to blows over scripture peoples! Christians both near and far
Bishop T.D. Jakes was none too impressed and he let his congregation know that he has not gained his wealth through their tithe payments, but he has worked for his and earned his status on his own merit.
“Now I know you’ve been watching that junk on the TV and I wanna tell you right now, not one dime of what you sow in right now will buy my suit. I want you to know my car is paid for. I want you to know I got my house on my own…”
Yes. He went there. And I have to say that I agree with him. If you are going to profit from your sheep, the least you can do it behave yourself on television and practice what you preach, right?
Do you agree with Bishop T.D. Jakes?
