Founder, Maya Smith’s image graces the labels rocking oversized frames reminiscent of iconic hip-hop. Even the product names like Mousse Def and Bonita Afro Balm – have a fresh 90s spin on them.
Fusing hip-hop with hair care, Smith believes that being natural doesn’t mean you have to be placed in one box. Hair is versatile. It can be naturally curly one day and then I sleek and straight the next after a blowout. The only problem was that there was no single line that allowed flexibility between hairstyles and delivered salon-quality hair at home.
THE BRAND
As a stylist for over 20 years, Smith was determined to develop a brand that streamlined hair care for her clients. She believes that you should be able to maintain your salon look between visits, so she employed her extensive hair knowledge and science to create the perfect line to fit these needs.
THE PRODUCTS
The Doux’s hair care system is your one-stop shop for wash day. It includes everything from shampoo and conditioner to styling balms.
The brand currently has five core products:
Sucka Free Moisturizing Shampoo: Sucka Free is a moisturizing shampoo infused with Shea Butter and Sea Silk.
Fresh Rinse Moisturizing Conditioner: Fresh Rinse uses the moisturizing benefits of Shea Butter and Sea Silk to keep your curls hydrated. Mousse Def: Mousse Def works with your style to bring definition to your curls or keep your smooth look in check.
Bonita Afro Balm: This styling cream uses the benefits of Goji Berry and other nourishing botanicals to create a multi-purpose styling cream.
The Light: If you are looking for a lightweight shine spray, this is the product for you. In addition to adding shine, this product protects and brightens the hair from heat and environmental damage.
