The face of U.S. currency could possibly change soon and we could see the change with the face of a woman.
According to Love B. Scott, a women’s feminist group has launched a campaign in order to make womens rights activists and African American women pioneers to be the new face of the $20 bill. 20s is a not-for-profit feminist group who wants to make Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth or Eleanor Roosevelt the new face of U.S. currency. In the opinion of the 20s, President Andrew Jackson is not worthy of his placement on the current $20 bill due because he owned slaves.
Ades Stones of Women on 20s had this to say about their campaign:
“The last time our paper money [portraits] were changed was in 1929. I think we’re a very different country than we were back then, and our money should reflect that. The women that we’ve put forward [on the ballot] have sparked the changes that have improved the lives of so many people, women, laborers, minorities and people all over this country. Acknowledging them this way is really appropriate.”
You can vote here for 1 of 15 inspiring American women. Voting ends at the end of this month.
How do you think this will change things in America if this comes into fruition? I think this is an amazing idea!
