Wicked City, on AllBlk.TV is the most recent show on my radar. If there’s one thing I love, its sharing a good thing. Wicked City is an easy show to follow, and it progresses rather quickly. This supernatural drama is centered around a coven of 6 witches living in Atlanta, GA. Vanessa Bell Calloway (Tabitha) is the head-witch and owner of Mystic Haven an occult shop she manages with her students Jordan (Shaquita Smith), Mona (Mercedez McDowell) Angela (Chantal Maurice) and Sherise (Chanel Mack). For what it’s worth, Wicked City is a good show to put on you weekend watchlist.
Wicked City has much of what you would expect from a show on witches. The episodes are roughly 30-40 minutes and are full of juicy drama and suspense.
The show opens with the unfortunate murder of Camille’s (Taylor Polidore) mother. Traveling across the country to Atlanta, Georgia to discover the identity of her mother’s killer, Camille subsequently uncovers a dark family secret that put her at the mercy of dangerous forces that threaten the life of her and the coven.
Wicked City’s current storyline has a lot of potential for growth. Several characters have back stories that already have me looking forward to a season 2. The show also introduces a newer theme in sci-fi television–Black witches as lead characters. Wicked City isn’t your run-of-the-mill witchy show either. The witches of Wicked City can contend with TV witches before them. The ladies have “gifts” like divination, mind-control, conjuring the elements and creating various potions and psychedelics for holistic and magical use. Each episode is roughly 40 minutes long and there are a total of 8 episodes in season 1.
There’s no word as of yet on a season two for Wicked City, however with where season one left-off there’s plenty of questions that need answering. Who is Camille’s father and what happened to him after her alleged death? What’s the tea with Tabitha? Yes, we saw her get stabbed, however she’s a very powerful witch. You’d think that after 127 years, you’d have some kind of trick up your sleeve. Are the girls going to go after Charise? This is a big one here. Season one ended pretty messy and there’s no telling what’s going to happen to the coven. And, lastly, who is the Magic council? The elusive witch’s council has been mentioned throughout the show; however we’ve never seen them. I know that no show lasts forever, but before Wicked City wraps-up, I need these questions answered.
