The Lip Bar was founded in 2012 after CEO + Founder Melissa Butler became “incredibly frustrated with the beauty industry”-TheLipBar.com.

Melissa took her business idea to the nationally televised show, “Shark Tank”. Investors on the show took it so far as to calling her lip colors, “Colorful cockroaches”. Despite being shunned for the world to see, Melissa continued to advertise her vegan, gluten-free and paraben-free lipsticks.
Melissa’s Lip Bar Story. . . .
“Everywhere I looked beauty companies, magazines and the TV were telling women that you need to look like a specific thing to be considered beautiful. I hated that. So I started making lipstick in my kitchen because I believed beauty shouldn’t compromise health and because I was determined to not change the way I looked to fit into some superficial or trendy beauty standard. Fuck that. There is no standard.
I always tell people, I’m not passionate about makeup. I’m a minimalist girl who believes a pop of color on the lips will give you enough confidence to take on the day and kick its ass! However, I am passionate about creating an inclusive narrative on what beauty is and reminding women that we don’t have to settle for anything. You are beautiful just the way you are. You don’t have to transform to look like the next “It Girl.” You don’t have to do anything but be you, because you are enough”. -thelipbar.com
