We’re glad to see that Chris Brown is finally in a good space. In a candid interview on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning show, he opens up about his drug abuse, feelings about ex-girlfriend Rihanna and her relationship with Drake, and marriage and kids with his ride or die Karrueche.
Check out the what we learned about Breezy below.
Being in jail helped him get focused.
“Once you do that, it kind of makes you mature faster and see what’s really important, what your focus is, and what you got to do in your career.”
Brown struggled with drug abuse for a few years.
“I was off the syrup, the Xanax, turning up. That’s the hood cocktail right there. I’m not ashamed about talking about it because a lot of our youth is doing that now…it wasn’t conducive to me. I was falling asleep on video sets, cursing people out randomly crazy stuff. Once I started seeing it start to affect my work I said let me chill out, this ain’t for me. I don’t want to be a zombie when I meet people or end up punching somebody because I’m under the influence of some bull. So from there it was about getting my act together.”
He has demons just like the rest of us.
“My demons as of now are being afraid of failure. That’s my biggest demon. And then probably just probably like you know, the old issues still come up. I talk to my therapist and everything else just to know how to deal with it. It’s about life and moving forward. People make mistakes and they grow from them.”
Him and Rihanna have made amends.
“Like, we good. She’s my friend. At the end of the day I knew that was a mistake that I would never do again. I take into consideration like dang I was 17-18 and I’m 25 now so I look back it like ‘dang’. And I’m still doing community service and going to see the judge every month and a half over that situation.”
He respects Rihanna for opening up on Oprah.
“It was a shock for me because you know, with different teams and how camps work. When I saw it I was like ‘ok cool’ now she’s showing me that she care because I didn’t know for a while. I was actually moved by it. At the end of the day, that’s when I knew we could be friends and can talk.”
He felt some type of way about Rihanna and Drake.
“I look at it like this. For me, I’m content with who I am so whoever decides to move on and do their thing I was cool. I mean, I was tight, but you also have to consider that was in the ‘thug Chris Brown era’. I was in my bag. At that time I was just all about running up on dudes, when I see you it’s this.”
But he didn’t take Rihanna and Drake’s relationship seriously.
“She’s going to get mad when I say this but in a way I do. It’s understandable. It’s the game, we young. We do that at that age. I think once we hit our 30s we not focusing on that.”
Drake’s camp made the initial call to squash the two artists’ beef.
“Honestly, his camp hit up my management and they was like we got this opportunity at the ESPYS, we want to do a spoof. So I was like cool. They were kind of hesitant because they didn’t know our temperature between each other. So I was just like I ain’t got time to be looking over my shoulder and be upset. It just doesn’t make me look good. So when they called us I was just like you know what, let’s break this whole beef thing. Let’s just do something funny, let’s make light of the situation. It just shows growth and maturity.”
He appreciates his girlfriend Karrueche for being loyal.
“It’s been almost 5 years. She’s straight. I dig her man. She’s dope. I feel like, especially being in this industry, you just need somebody that understands you. Understands who you are personally except for your name. You don’t have to be buying them bags and let me stunt on you, although I do that. Me and her have a real connection, like best friends on top of our intimacy.”
He could see himself marrying Karrueche…but not anytime soon.
“I’m scared of marriage man cause I’m young right now. That’s the only thing. Kids? Yeah man, I need a little Chris Brown cause when I can’t dance no more I got to teach him something. I’m not rushing, I’m 25.”
