Can we say “sequel” for Creed? We definitely hope so! The latest installment of the Rocky franchise was a surprising box office hit over the Thanksgiving weekend, debuting third behind Mockingjay and The Good Dinosaur; bringing in an estimated $42.6 million dollars. The film had everything–family, loyalty, amazing fight scenes, and legacy; proving that the nostalgia surrounding the Rocky franchise is as potent as it was nearly thirty years ago. We are definitely hyped for a sequel, and rumor has it the second Creed movie will be a true family affair.
(Spoiler Alert) As you recall, Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) is stated by the media to be the youngest biological son of Apollo Creed, not his only son. In the sequel it rumored it will be “Creed vs. Creed” as Adonis must face one of his older half-brothers in the ring. His brothers are not to happy with him capitalizing off their father’s name for a championship fight. Mary Anne, his adoptive mother, and their actual mother is torn between her sons and stepson making for some family drama that only a drag out fight will fix! This already sounds amazing, and we have no doubt this film too will be a hit.
Michael B. Jordan has come forward to say he definitely would do a sequel. “A character so rich as this, and the world he’s in, I want to see what happens to him next and what he does,” Jordan states. “Especially the way it ends off, it’s pretty cool. I think with success and time and circumstances, it would be exciting to come back and work with (co-stars) Sly (Stallone) and Tessa (Thompson) again.” Okay Hollywood, let’s make it happen. There are a lot of us who are more than ready to see him don those red, blue, and white trunks again. Be sure you catch Creed in theaters nationwide today!
