The War on Drugs has raged for decades now, but never before has hit been waged so openly on American soil. Tension between the United States and Mexico reach an all time high, after a botched battle between the FBI and a Mexican drug cartel causes the decimation of a town. Naturally, the federal government reacts swiftly, putting together and elite black ops team to take out the cartels along the border responsible. They recruit, Kate Macer, an FBI agent with a rather right wing view of the situation. After witnessing the devastation around her she feels inclined to take a more direct approach in ending the conflict. Little does she know, she is just a pawn in a situation so intense, surreal, and deadly that it makes post-apocalyptic films look like a walk in the park when action ensues.
Sicario is one those films that starts off slow, story building, but delivers when it comes down to the nitty gritty. Unfortunately, very little of that “nitty gritty” involves any action from Emily Blunt. This was her time to become a true action star, but instead she served as more of moral compass for the film. The men around her did what she would/could not. It is the realism of this movie that saves it. You just know somewhere along the border as you read this there is some black ops team maintaining the status quo. Just be sure you check this film out, it is definitely one of Fall’s most intense movie adventures.
Sicario is now in theaters nationwide!
