If you’ve personally never tried it then you know someone who has. Yup, it’s all about the dating social network apps that are taking over the scene by storm. For some time now I’ve heard the word Tinder floating around, but at first wasn’t sure what it was until I got the scoop. Quickly, I compared it to the gay equivalent Jack’d to clarify a better understanding. If you’re confused no need to worry I already have you covered.
A few years ago back in college I heard of this app Grindr that detected if another gay man was close by. I guess you could call it a gay GPS. At the time being that I was totting around a Blackberry Curve I had no chance in downloading the app. Years later after graduation I did dabble in Jack’d, which is also a dating app for gay men too. See I was only apart of the app for just about 4 months and got rid of it. For me it didn’t offer up the kind of men I was interested in. Now for other friends of mine lets just say it gets the job done. To be honest there are few of overly sexed crazed men looking for a hook, but we’ll pass n that. Overall, it does serve it’s purpose in finding a potential date or as a DL detector depending on who you are.
Peeping into the world of Tinder the similarities are the apparent. Everyone is either looking for a potential date or hook up. Dating has now become an even simpler task for the everyday American between 18-24. Years ago online dating was the groundbreaking “crazy” idea, but now your next date can literally be two feet or a swipe away.
What will happen to the days of charm and actually putting in a little effort? Social media has already stifled one on one communication and now it’s invading the love department. The idea may be revolutionary, but the feeling of butterflies in the belly may just deplete. These apps make it seem as if anyone is disposable with a single swipe to the left.
With having so much access to a slue of people at your finger tips it’s almost evident that cheating will rise. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it doesn’t open up Pandora’s box in the end. Being that this is the microwave generation, always desiring something quick and easy hopefully we don’t regret this later. Love is a process and takes more effort than message, “Do you want to chill?”
XoXo
