Gratitude and generosity filled the air as charitable men and women gathered to celebrate a cause greater than themselves. Founder of the Jet Jones Foundation and professional basketball player, DeQuan Jones, gives a new meaning to paying it forward. On Thursday (August 3), DeQuan and his wife Allison Jones held their 2nd Annual Party For a Purpose Happy Hour Mixer in Atlanta, Georgia.

Party For A Purpose

Event ambassadors Alexia Adams professional basketball player, Margaret Alabi CEO and Co-founder of The Pivot Consulting Group, David Albai CEO and Co-founder of The Pivot Consulting Group, and Debbi DiMaggio realtor and author, explained their connection and contribution to the fundraiser.
The highlight of the evening came from the man with tremendous talent, but an even bigger heart, DeQuan Jones. After DeQuan’s heartfelt story, attendees were able to fully comprehend the purpose of the foundation and why it was so near and dear to the Stone Mountain native’s heart. DeQuan explained what started off as a random trip to Walmart, sparked the idea for a foundation that would help shape the lives of children.
I was in Walmart and saw a single mother buying school supplies for her three kids. One of the kids picked up a 12 pack of crayons, and she told him to put it back because they couldn’t afford it. Seeing that tugged at the strings of my heart. I felt inclined to go over to her and offer to help.

Charles A. Mathis Scholarship
In addition to supplying students in Title 1 schools with supplies. DeQuan announced the foundation’s latest initiative to help high school seniors pay for their college applications. This fall, the Jet Jones Foundation will award six seniors the Charles A. Mathis scholarship. From his humble beginnings in Stone Mountain, Georgia to his career in the NBA, one thing was made clear that night. His willingness to go above and beyond to serve his community that instilled so many values in him.
