For those of you that are not familiar with matter vs. dewy finishes, we’re talking about how your makeup settles into your skin when applied. Matte finishes are typically flat and creamy, which will you give you a more flawless look but it will be much more obvious that you’re wearing makeup. Dewy finishes have a slight glow, which allows skin to appear more glossy. The slight shimmer provides skin with a more natural finish. Still a little unclear of the differences between these finishes? Here’s an example: Light and creamy, almost chalky lipstick would be considered matte, whereas a sheer lipstick with shimmer and shine would be considered dewy.
In order to achieve a dewy finish on your skin, try using liquid foundation. I would not recommend going for a dewy finish if you have naturally oil skin because it will make you look shinier than normal. In this case, go for a matte look because it will appear that you have a dewy finish once mixed with your natural oils. For a matte finish, try using press powder or applying loose powder over foundation. Matte and dewy finishes are equally appealing, it just depends on the look that you’re going for. For example, I love going for a dewy look in the summer because it gives the illusion that you’re glowing.
