As of May 15, 2013 Kelly Rowland released her new single “Dirty Laundry” where she tells ALL from her former abusive relationship to the envious relationship she shared with her best friend, Beyonce Knowles. This song basically fills in and explains to her audience the story behind and the meaning of Destiny’s Child 2004 hit single “Girl”. On this song she uses the analogy of dirty laundry to tell her own secrets and to release everything she has been holding in.
This song was very informative but maybe this wasn’t the best forum for her to express her feelings. For all music lovers, we had to dig a little deeper than just the melody and the arrangement of the song but more of the words. “He said, don’t nobody love you but me. Not your mama, not your daddy and especially not Bey.” These are the words that her boyfriend said to her to lower her self-esteem and make her rely on him. Since this song ended off as a cliff hanger, I think it would have been best if she aired on Iyanla Vanzant’s show Fix My life, where she has interviewed people such as DMX. This show would have been a more intimate setting and allowed Kelly Rowland to be more transparent and to go into more depth of how she really feels and what REALLY happened all those years ago. This song is only a teaser and a synopsis of what really went down.
Most artists do something to shock their following or something to get their attention at a specific point in their careers and this, world is just that. Not saying that the events that she has described hasn’t affected her life tremendously but why out it now? And where is her ex-boyfriend that put her through all of this. Was this laundry worth washing and hanging it up for the world to see or should it have been old clothes thrown away never to resurface again?
