Estelle is truly one phenomenal artist! She can sing, act (Delphine from Empire ring a bell?), and even does voice overs! Yep, you heard right Estelle is the voice of Garnet, leader of The Crystal Gems on Cartoon Network’s hit animated series, Steven Universe! This may be old news to most, but “new news” includes a new song, Stronger Than You, she is singing just for the show! In one of the latest episodes of the series, Estelle’s character is forced to battle a villainess, Jasper, who’s threatening to take down her friends and the Earth itself. Like any superhero, she is just not going to let that happen!
Estelle has been doing Garnet’s voice for well over a year now but she has never song on the show. This marks yet another highlight on the surprisingly popular series that has been highly praised for its lessons on tolerance, acceptance, and feminism. Steven Universe has even become another progressive animated series with the introduction of a lesbian couple, Ruby and Sapphire, who just so happen to fuse together to become Garnet. According to the creator, their fusion is symbolic of two becoming one–like a marriage. Either way the Stronger Than You is catchy and appropriate for the battle at hand.
