Exclusive interview with Maze Runner Actor Dexter Darden

Recently I had the opportunity to interview, The Maze Runner actor Dexter Darden.

Who is Dexter Darden?

Dexter Darden grew up in Camden, NJ and has been a performer from the early age of 3. Dexter began his career singing in his local church choir, captivating the hearts of the attendees. Growing up Dexter watched performers such as Michael Jackson & Denzel Washington on the big screen, with the hope of aspiring to be a performer himself one day. These performers opened doors for other African American performers because of their amazing work and great contributions to the field of entertainment, allowing other African American actors the opportunity to follow the same path.

Dexter’s early exposure to performing in front of large crowds would provide opportunities for him to sing and perform off-Broadway such as the Nutcracker and the Phantom of the Opera.

“Working in theater provided me the confidence to act on camera.”

Dexter began working in Film and Television in 2006. He has worked on projects that have included actors; Julia Roberts, Whoopie Goldberg, Jerry Seinfield, Paul Mc Cartney, Alec Baldwin, Meryl Streep, Gwyneth Paltrow  and many more.

However, Dexter got his big break when he was casted for the movie Joyful Noise.

What’s Next for Dexter?

Dexter’s next film, “Burden” is set to be released at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. The movie documents the story of Mike Burden, a Ku Klux Klan man who attempts to leave the organization for love. His departure is not well received, and the Klan seeks to get vengeance. Mike is provided a safe haven by a black reverend (Forest Whitaker) with the intent of showing Mike and his family the true meaning of love.

Additionally, Dexter plans to release new music, act more and participate in more plays.

“I would love to participate in Hamilton”
