Jem & The Holograms the hit animated series of the eighties now a live action movie. Yep, now you can see Jem, Rio, Kimber, Aja, Raya, Shana, and The Misfits are all back and on the Big Screen! The film centers on a small town girl, Jerrica Benton, with dreams of stardom. She and her three sisters are go from virtual unknowns to megastars overnight, realizing their talent is too great to keep under wraps. Still, the girls have to learn sometimes fame comes at a price.
The trailer for Jem & The Holograms was released earlier this week and fan reaction has been one of disgust and appall! Why? You might ask? Just check out the trailer, the show has been completely cut from the source material. Where is Synergy? Where are the special effects? Where’s the fashion, glitter, glamour, and fame? Fans were hoping for a realistic portrayal of Jem, not an overpriced remake of Hannah Montana (which in itself was a rip off of the Jem animated series!). The correct portrayal of the character should have been a high tech female pop star who utilizes special effects to disguise her identity and live a normal life. Far-fetched? Not quite. Any superhero movie does it. To put it simply it looks like Jem just went from “totally outrageous” to “totally generic!” What do you think? Comment below.
