The BET Hip Hop Awards made it’s way through Atlanta over the weekend and there were hip hop festivities going on to pleasure the spectrum and I had the joyous pleasure of attending the “Hip Hop In Heels Gifting Suite” hosted by none other than Lex Monroe. This was a fashionista’s dream as it was held at Elaine Breedlove Fashion Boutique in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Guests included Dondria,D. Woods, Regindrop Lopes, Sharlinda Parker, and “Big Rich Atlanta‘s” Sabrina and Kahdijiah Rowe. Guest were able to shop from designers around the world, get glammed up by SD Luxuri Cosmetics, drink cocktails by Voscato and Seviin Vodka as well as a cupcake bar.
So when did Lex fall in love with Hip Hop?
I feel in love with hip hop at the age of nine. Living in Mississippi we get things like teo years late and I remember hearing for the first time Big Pimpin by Jay Z and it was Pimp C’s verse at the end…that was the beginning. Then I feel in love with UGK, Three Six Mafia, more southern artists.
How did Hip Hop In High Heels come about?
Hip Hop In High Heels (HHIHH) started off as an networking event for the females in the industry to come together and work together. For us to build stepping stones for where we want to get to in this industry…socialize, empower one another. Our male counterparts don’t care if we get lost by the way side, HHIHH has blossomed into something much more. The big picture for me is to be in radio and TV broadcasting, think of LaLa or Wendy Williams, HHIHH is to get my name and brand out there. I’m young but I’m very serious with what I do.
Who is Lex Monroe?
Lex Monroe is a creative, free spirit
Lex know about her hip hop and more importantly she know about her “main man” Big K.R.I.T.
Big K.R.I.T. is just a great spirit. He’s from where I’m and we didn’t know each other but when I started by blog in 2010 he gave me my first interview and it’s been love from there. We started working together and I started covering him, joined fan club, went to Texas and shows…this is the kind of fan I am. I love BiG K.R.I.T.
I had a great time and it’s ALWAYS a plus to see females in this industry carving out their own lane and doing things their way. Looking forward to attending another one of her mixers. You can find Lex on Twitter @lexmonroe Instagram @thelexmonroe or check out her blog at thelexmonroe.blogspot.com
