The Game Over! After Nine Seasons BET Ends the hit show!

I want to say it ain’t so, but it is! After nine seasons BET will be ending the hit television show, The Game. Yep, Tasha, Kelly, Chardonnay, Keira, Blue, Tee-Tee, Jason, and Malik’s days are numbered. The show began on UPN as a spin off of “Girlfriends,” based off Joan Clayton’s younger cousin and medical student, Melanie Barnett (Tia Mowry-Hardrict). From there we watched as Melanie and her then boyfriend Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall) befriended a motley crew of football players, foot ball wives, and a sports agent with a mean streak. Although, Melanie and Derwin were written out two seasons ago, the show has managed to continue shifting its focus primarily to Tasha Mack (Wendy Raquel Robinson), Malik Wright ( and Jason Pitts (Coby Bell). Still, the show just does not seem the same without its original headliners. BET announced Monday the series will be ending after its ninth and final season both slated to air in 2015. “All good things must come to an end and after celebrating four successful seasons of THE GAME on BET, the Network has announced production is underway on the show’s final two seasons. In January 2011 the cult following of The Game proved that the show was a fan favorite with 7.7 million viewers for its premiere debut on BET. With seasons eight and nine, we’re excited to end on a high note by giving Sabers fans a chance to bid farewell to their favorite players on and off the field.”

Series creator and executive producer, Mara Brock Akil, apparently not only supports BET’s decision , but was the one to hand it down. “Shows do end…That is a part the business. I’m very happy BET gave The Game five additional seasons to explore these characters and this world. We made history when we got to the network and it’s nice to be able to celebrate the great achievements of the show.” The Game has definitely had a great run. Most shows do not get cancelled and then revived for five more seasons! Thankfully, as Mara aforementioned, we will get to give the characters a proper send off. Let’s hope Tia and Pooch will reprise their roles, albeit temporarily, to be with the rest of The Game’s cast. It would make for an awesome reunion. The question now remains what new show will replace The Game?

Hey Mikey!

WHO AM I? That’s probably what you’re thinking? It’s simple I’m this generation’s “Dear Abby!” I was raised in the Fourth Ward of Atlanta, educated in the School of Hard Knocks, and rescued by the concrete and steel of New York City. Life at best will always be bittersweet. The sooner you accept that, the better off you’ll be. I’d prefer to be on your sweeter side. Everyone needs a listening ear, extra shoulder, and open arms when life gets rough. I’m your new best friend, where it all goes south remember I’m a mouse click or tweet away. Hang in there kids, you’re gonna love kickin’ it with me!!! -Michael Jonvier
