When she’s not working with her production company Kelly’s Pool Hall Productions, actress and writer Jeanette Bonner can been seen on her show The Scoop or on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. Jeanette Bonner met with Kontrol to talk about her show The Scoop and to dish a little about her role as Rose Waters on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. Jeanette’s humor seeped through the phone, she in New York and I–in Detroit.
Jeanette Bonner is the creator, writer and producer of her own show–The Scoop.
“It [The Scoop] was a show I made a couple years ago. It started in 2016. You know what I mean,” she said through a short laugh, alluding to our famously shamed former president.
“A lot of writers I knew were struggling with coming up with content that wasn’t even political or with a message, but something that was up-beat. Every time you turned on the TV. it was so dark and intense. We were all really bombarded with negative media. So I thought, how can you create media that people want to watch?
So fast forward to the summer of 2017. Me and a friend are in Mid-town and wanted to get ice-cream and couldn’t think of a single place to get any, which is insane to me. New York is a city that has every kind of food you can imagine in addition to the best kinds of that food. I started a blog about local and independent ice-cream shops in New York City and got the idea to use that blog to create a food show but more than that. I can use it as a vehicle to connect with other people in the artistic community to talk about their love of art and why they’re pursuing it. So The Scoop is half food show half art talk show.”
Jeanette is currently cast as Rose Waters on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. “No one and I mean no one knew where the story was going. When I booked the role it was described as this non-speaking part that’s seen in a flashback with a knife. It was later revealed that I’d come back and have a scene with Angela. I was in the make-up trailor with Mya who plays Noah Oliver and she’s like you’re Rose Waters when are you coming back–we’re all trying to figure out who did it. I don’t know if the writer’s did that intentionally and withheld information from the cast of were developing it in real-time.
