This past weekend Glam University held their bi-annual Girl Power Sleepover, at the W Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. Kontrol Magazine had the pleasure of attending and getting our girl power on with some of the most successful business creators from across the US.
If you are already familiar with Glam University, then you know that they break the mold when it comes to women’s entrepreneurship conferences. Twice a year CEO and successful business coach, Sabrina Peterson, initiates a jam-packed coaching curriculum to aid aspiring and current businesswomen on their journey to successful entrepreneurship. Only, this isn’t your traditional women’s business conference, it’s actually a success driven sleepover where you get to “sleep with” your mentors. Cocktails and capitalism- a recipe for success!
Just in case you missed it….
This year’s sleep over introduced new insight to success from keynote speaker, the GirlBoss herself Sophia Amoroso, founder of the successful Nasty Gal brand and author of the NYT Bestseller #GirlBoss.
Amoroso on writing #GirlBoss
“I realized there were no books in the business section for girls who weren’t, you know, maybe in business school. I wasn’t the girl who went to business school, I didn’t go to school.” Amoroso adds “I thought it would be great to tell my story, you know, how I started and came up and what I learned along the way, hopefully in an effort to share and inspire other girls to do the same thing.” “You have to make it happen for yourself but here’s what I have to share.”
Glam powered workshops for the day included a credit conversation crash course, branding 101, and even a mini episode of Shark Tank, Glam University style of course.
Each student had the opportunity to get one on one business advice, ask questions, and learn the paths to success for many of the high-profile businesswomen on the expert’s panel.
This year’s experts included author and media maven- Karen Civil, CEO of CURLS hair products- Mahisha Dellinger, founder of The Cut Life – Tahira Joy, creator of millennial businesswomen’s network Boss Babes- Alexandra Wolf, and many, many more!
Of all the powerful messages exchanged this weekend, Karen Civil leaves us with this:
“Do you want to be the girl that’s envied, do you want to be the girl that inspires, do you want to be girl where there snapping your picture to take it to the hair stylist?” Civil adds “You can be anything you want to be online, just make sure it has an overall message and value.”
The next installment of Glam University’s Girl Power Sleepover is set to take place on July 16th, 2016. in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information be sure to follow @theglamuniversity on Instagram.
