Google was in hot tea yesterday for allegedly leading anyone who used the search terms, “Nigger King” or “Nigger House” to the White House. The intense and disturbing shade towards President Obama and his family sparked a lot of heat towards the multi-billion dollar company.
Yesterday, Google issued out an apology for the racist and disrespectful issue from its application. “Some inappropriate results are surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused,” Google said in a statement released today. “Our teams are working to fix this issue quickly.”
With racism and injustice being at an all-time high right now in America, this couldn’t have come at a worst time for the company as tempers are already flared to the max for African-Americans. It is not clear as of how this bug made its way into the application. Google shut down its Map Maker program that allowed the application users to make their own edits to the Google Map application. This happened when pranksters created a hilarious edit with the Android robot urinating on the Apple logo. As far this situation, prank or not, this was quite disturbing and disrespectful to see happen.
