What do Denzel Washington, Betty White, and Mike Tyson have in common? Can’t figure it out? What about Andre 3000, Angela Bassett, and Tia Mowry-Hardict? True, they are all famous, but the commonality among them all is their meat-free lifestyle. I get it. Healthy food choices aren’t the most raging topic to talk about, but it’s actually a lot more prevalent than you might think.
Think about it this way, we are so careful of the personal choices we make about who we date, what we wear, what kind of music we like–why should it be any different with our choice in food? Your body puts out what you put in. Your choice of food that you eat should be as particular as your choice in a partner. You should want the best quality. Instead of chips and a soda, grab a fruit and water. Instead of a double cheeseburger meal, try a $5 Veggie Delite from Subway (you seriously cannot tell that the sandwich has no meat on it).
Committing to a plant-based diet is not easy, but it’s not as difficult as one might think either. It absolutely takes discipline, but most everything that is good for us does. There are more reasons than a few why people choose to commit to a vegetarian or a vegan lifestyle. There are documentaries all over Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. I recommend that every person reading this takes a look at this video: Meet Your Meat. Once you’ve done that, challenge yourself to making a conscious effort to remove meat from your diet for just one day out of the week. Most people participate in Meatless Mondays. Did you know that if each American participated in ‘Meatless Mondays’ we could save 1.4 billion animals a year as opposed to the 10 billion animals the we kill each year for food?
It may sound like a sacrifice now, but your body will thank you. The more you learn about the many benefits of adopting healthier eating habits, the easier and more appealing those habits will be to commit to. Healthy decisions always pay off. Give it a try.
And remember… “You are what you eat; so don’t be fast, cheap, easy, or fake.”
