Naturalistas and #teamnatural supporters on college campuses across the country participated in Carol’s Daughter’s Healthy Hair College Tour this past week. Hosted by Myliek Teele, founder of CurlBox, the tour set out to educate and empower co-eds at six HBCUs to give up relaxers and begin their healthy hair journey.
Here in the #Atl, I spoke with women at Clark-Atlanta University and Spelman College about the best and worst part of wearing #kinkycurly #textured hair. We all agree that shrinkage is the worst and nobody has time to retwist afros every night. Panelist Alexis Felder @lexiwiththecurls loves the freedom of the ‘fro and the versatility that having strong, healthy hair offers. She opts for braided styles, blond hi-lites, and wash-n-goes to style her mane.
If you’re considering transitioning from relaxed to natural hair, Carol’s Daughter has a plan for you. Go over to http://www.transitioningmovement.com/ for the best products, creative styling options and answers to your questions about hair breakage, scalp issues and the dreaded #bigchop!
I shaved my head when I was 17-years-old and haven’t thought about a relaxer since. If the thought of a razor buzzing in your ear causes heart palpatations, panelist and celebrity stylist Nikk Nelson suggests the #sewandgrow method. Angela Simmons’ go-to hair guru, Nelson has transitioned over 500 of his clients at Pressed Natural Hair Salon in Atlanta, and has never done a big chop. “Deep conditioning and steaming are key,” Nelson says. He loves Carol’s Daughter Hair Smoothie for hydrating dull, dry hair. While wearing extensions, or protective styling, you’re in #kontrol of wearing your hair curly or straight. That’s the tea and you heard it from me @makeupbymuse for @kontrolmag.
