If you have pets or kids at home, an accident on the mattress can sometimes be inevitable. And, if that’s what’s happened with you, the first thing you need to do is relax because there are easy ways to clean urine out of a mattress. Yes, no chemical fumes necessary, and you will be able to do it yourself. Take a look.
Step 1
Before you gather your supplies or try to get rid of the urine from your mattress, you need to remove the sheets and put them to wash immediately. Why? Because urine stains very fast and if you postpone this step, your sheet will have a permanent stain. To make sure there is no lingering urine smell post-wash, add a cup of white vinegar with your detergent. This will not only make your sheets smell good, but it will also help get rid of any stain.
Step 2
Once your sheets are out of the way, take a few paper towels and dab the excess liquid from the mattress. Now, don’t scrub it, be gentle. When you feel the paper has soaked enough and nothing much is left, you can proceed to the next step.
Step 3
In this step, you will need a spray bottle to which you will add one cup of white vinegar and one cup of cold water. You can also add a spoon of laundry detergent. Mix it and spray it on the stain. Don’t be stingy with it; soak the stain. Then, let it sit for 30 minutes. Another popular method is baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, so if you are wondering how to clean a mattress with baking soda and peroxide, read on.
For this, instead of vinegar, use 3% hydrogen peroxide and mix it with a cup of baking soda. Shake it well and spray on the stain just like before. Now, just like we added a spoon of laundry detergent in the previous method, here, you need to mix a spoon of liquid detergent. Then, let it sit for 30 minutes.
Step 4
Once the time is up, take fresh paper towels and dab the excess liquid from the mattress. Keeping your bed clean will also make your foam mattress last longer.
Step 5
Cover the stain with baking soda and let it sit for 7-10 hours. You can make sure you close the room so that your kids or pets won’t make a mess. Also, to make sure your mattress smells excellent, add a few drops of essential oil to the baking soda before you spread it generously over the stain.
Step 6
Once your mattress is fully dry, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the powder from your bed. You can try dabbing the stain to check if it has completely dried because otherwise, you will end up ruining your vacuum cleaner. Once this step is done, you can now rest easily on your mattress because it will feel as good as new.
Hope this helps!
