One word that accurately describes Jarel Zhang’s debut New York Fashion Week Collection is details. Pleats, zippers, and even deep pockets were key aspects of these S/S18 looks. Zhang gave us stylish rainy-day vibes for the spring. The runway had Caution signs and orange cones to set a construction zone atmosphere. The designer wanted his audience to experience “Beauty in the Chaos”.

Head-to-Toe

Imagine a beautiful woman walking down the street while grabbing everyone’s attention on a rainy day in New York City. Each model worked a bare face with only a bright eyeshadow to complement the clothing. While the majority of their hair was down, two small braids were placed to strategically hang over each shoulder. Models wore each piece with either see-through shoes with bright-colored laces or solid-colored (black or white) shoes with white shoe laces. Pretty unique, right?
Jarel Loves Color

Zhang did not shy away from metallic silvers and neon colors. Orange, pink, purple, yellow and blue popped up on the runway, making it hard for your eyes to wander anywhere else. Many of the looks consisted of oversized coats and blouses. Some coats stood alone as their own looks while other jackets and blouses were paired with pants and shorts. While most details are thought of to be intricate, these were not. There were big buttons and sleeves that extended well past the hand, giving a boxy appearance.

Master of Design

What is this mastermind designer’s background? Zhang received his first master’s degree from Northumbria University and his second master’s in Textile Design from Chelsea College of Art and Design. The Jarel Zhang Studio goes in depth with how talented this designer is. Brilliant patterns and intricate lines forming geometric shapes help describe his identity. His creative eye will continue to be the influence for his innovative designs to come.
